The Brasshoppers are reuniting this summer at The Sanctuary Studio for a joyful 9-week brass and improvisation class unlike anything else in Orange County.

Brasshoppers is no ordinary student brass band—it’s an immersive ensemble where students learn to create music together through active listening, improvisation, and collaboration.

Rather than simply reading notes from a page, students engage music as a living art through games, creative exercises, guided improvisation, and ensemble challenges designed to build confidence, awareness, musicianship, and genuine artistic connection. Each session invites students to listen deeply, respond intuitively, and discover their own musical voice while making something meaningful together in real time.

This summer program will also include preparation for a special public performance as part of The Sanctuary Studio’s USA 250th Anniversary Celebration on July 4th. Alongside the ensemble’s improvisational work, students will learn and reinterpret American folk tunes and the national anthem through the spirited, community-centered Brasshoppers approach.

The program culminates in a final concert on Monday, July 27th, celebrating the growth, creativity, and camaraderie developed throughout the summer.

While ideal for younger musicians, all ages are welcome. More experienced players are encouraged not only to deepen their own musicianship, but to mentor and inspire younger members—helping create an ensemble culture rooted in generosity, creativity, and shared joy.
